Slava Isusu Khrystu!
I would like to thank everyone who came to pray with us last week on the occasion of the feast day of our patron saint, Saint John the Baptist and then later joined us for our parish picnic. As a rule there has to be rain on the day of our picnic but I find that people have grown used to this and wait for the rain to subside and then have a wonderful time all afternoon and evening. As always, I thank everyone who helped organize this event.
Our next event will be our parish Ukrainian Festival which will be held on the 25th of September (the last Saturday in September.) Please make plans to come and bring your family and friends. As always, we will have an outdoor program and a choice of tasty foods in our outdoor kitchen.
We are standing on the threshold of summer and I ask where this whole year has gone. It seems that every year summer comes back sooner than the year before… they say that this is a sign of aging. But young or old, I hope that all of you will have an opportunity for some rest this summer. Most of you need a rest for many of you are battling so very many different problems. In these difficult economic times there are many who have lost their jobs. Others have a job and work long hours or don’t like their jobs. Some have difficult situations at home, others have difficult situations at work. Many have health issues. Many worry about tomorrow. No matter what our lives look like from the outside, very few of us have a carefree existence and sooner or later we all have to suffer pain, grief or disappointment.
How often we hear people complain about their lives and would do anything to trade places with someone else. And perhaps it MIGHT be a little better in someone else’s shoes, but we must remember that all is not always as it seems on the outside. Someone might look happy but they might be hiding a pain… or a disappointment… or a huge worry… They might be wishing to be in YOUR shoes! NO, all is not as it seems and it would be wise not to waste time on unrealistic wishes. It would be wiser to change what we can in our lives and to accept the rest of it.
It reminds me of the serenity prayer, I am sure that many of you have heard it before. "God, Give us the grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things which should be changed, and the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other." I have heard that Mother Theresa recited this prayer every day and perhaps it would be wise if we do so as well. It requires so little time but could bring strong perspective to our everyday.
I cannot wish each of you to be free of problems because I know that this would be an unrealistic dream but I do wish you grace, courage and wisdom to face the problems that you must face… and may endurance always be part of your life, endurance, which from the bottom of my heart I wish for each and every one of you. Слава Ісусу Христу! Дякую всім, хто прийшов з нами на празник нашого покровителя св. Івана Хрестителя помолитися і пізніше повернувся на наше подвір’я на пікнік. Як правило, коли ми збираємося на наш пікнік, падає дощ і люди вже до цього звикли та чекають на погоду, а тоді дуже гарно ціле пополудне та вечір веселяться. Як щороку, дякую всім, хто допоміг цей пікнік зорганізувати. Як знаєте, наступна наша подія – це наш Український Фестиваль, який відбудеться 25-го вересня (в останню суботу вересня). Прошу вас на цю суботу не робити жодних планів і прийти до нас з родиною та друзями. Почастуємо вас смачними стравами та запросимо на цікаву програму. Ми з вами стоїмо на порозі літа і я спитаюся вас, де той рік втік? Мені здається, що щороку літо приходить скоріше, як попереднього... кажуть, що це ознака старості... Але молоді ви чи старі, я надіюся, що ви зможете цього літа відпочити, бо більшість із вас цього відпочинку потребує. Коли я говорю з парафіянами, бачу, що багато із вас бореться з різними проблемами. В тяжких економічних часах багато втратили роботу, інші мають праці, але працюють довгі години, або працюють на роботах, які не приносять їм жодного вдоволення, а ще інші мають погані відносини з людьми в родині. Багато мають проблеми зі здоров’ям і декотрі журяться завтрішним днем. І хоч наше життя може гарно виглядати зі зовні, дуже мало із нас живе безжурно і рано чи пізніше всі ми терпимо біль, горе чи розчарування.
Люди нарікають на своє життя і радо б з кимсь іншим замінялися. І МОЖЕ було б непогано побувати в чужій шкірі, але треба пам’ятати, що не все воно є так, як воно виглядає. Хтось може вам видаватися щасливим, але по правді приховує біль, розчарування чи велику журбу. Може вони хотіли б бути у ваших черевиках! Ні, не все воно є так, як воно виглядає і шкода тратити час на нереальні бажання. Краще змінити, що можемо, у свойому житті, а решту всего прийняти таким, як воно є.
Згадую молитву безтурботності... яку я впевнений, що багато із вас вже чули. «Боже, дай мені ласку безтурботно приймати все те, що я не можу змінити, відвагу змінити те, що треба змінити , і мудрість відрізнити одне від другого.» Кажуть, що Мати Тереса цю молитву щоденно промовляла і добре було би, якби ми пішли її слідом. Це не вимагає багато часу, а може принести у наш будень багато здорової перспективи.
Я не можу бажати вам життя без клопотів, бо це було б нереально, але бажаю вам ласки, щоб з відвагою та мудрістю приймати проблеми, з якими ви мусите зустрічатися... і нехай у вас завжди панує витривалість, витривалість, якої я вам від щирого серця бажаю.
